I believe that an instructor’s primary role is to create an environment that encourages a real desire to learn by presenting the subject matter in a way that is interesting to the student and by striving to make it make it relevant to their lives. It is my role as an instructor to take abstract concepts and breathe life into them and make them real to the student. I think that it is important to understand and be constantly aware that different people learn in different ways. Because of this, I feel that it is important that an instructor uses a wide range of teaching methods in order to give each student the best opportunity to learn and understand the material.

Along with tutoring, I have also led clinics on learning styles and how to discover the ways you learn. Because of this, I am able to help a student who may not know the ways by which they learn best. I can not only help them discover effective study skills to use while alone, but I can adapt the way I teach however I need. My philosophy is to teach a student to become self-sufficient when it comes to studying and learning. The day a student no longer needs me is the day for which I strive.
During most of my time in college, I tutored my peers. Striving for degrees in Biology and Chemistry, I was required to take a wide range of math and science courses. Because of the wide range of classes I took, I was able to use what I learned to help others and break things down into a way they could understand. Also, because I was a science major, I am able teach the proper ways to write and ... read more

I find great joy in watching a child progress in their education. All children are capable of learning at their own pace, and through repetition. Your child will find success and ease in their academics through my assistance. I am patient and understanding, yet persistent. I firmly believe in encouraging a child to discover his/her strengths in order to overcome whatever obstacles may present themselves. I make learning fun by using everyday life siutations parallel to each equation. If more learning were hands-on, more students would be able to apply learned techniques to their situation at hand.
As a college senior, I have accumulated countless hours towards tutoring and mentoring those in need. After sub teaching the last couple of years I have found most kids want to learn but need a lot of "structure". If their personal "structure" isn't there it is difficult for them. This is also true for kids who are advanced. I believe in no cell phones, electronic devices, and trying to figure out what each child strengths and weaknesses are and then use those strengths to help them learn. I am not against having background music playing during homework time because it doesn't bother other children. It is a problem however in the classroom.

A Little Bit About Me...

I feel like the best way to teach a subject is to break it down to the basics and build your way up, I feel you cant have a full understanding of something if you cant teach it yourself. Im a positive motivator and I believe that with enough patience and repetition any student will be able to understand anything.
As a current graduate student I've learned to not only be a student but also a teacher, in assisting my peers and family in subjects beyond their understanding. I love teaching and I am great at it. I believe that anyone can learn anything if the information is presented in a certain matter. I have used soccer to teach math, pool to teach geometery, current event to teach history. I like to use a hands-on approach to learning. Students need to see, hear, and write information to remember it long term. They also need to understand why and believe it is important information to learn.

I believe that every student has the potential to succeed – if someone believes enough in her/him to spend the time required to activate what may be a hidden talent for learning. This belief, along with genuine respect for the student, is the foundation for all good teaching. My optimistic attitude is, hopefully, an important support for the student as he/she is challenged by new learning experiences.
I graduated magna cum laude from Duke University with a B.S. in chemistry; then I turned down Harvard to attend Columbia University. I did quite a bit of tutoring while in graduate school and then took up a teaching post at Stetson University, where I have had ample opportunities to tutor my own students over the many years I worked there. Tutoring has always been the best part of my job, and I look forward to the chance to serve you or your child in that capacity.

I try to make learning fun and relate it to things that people experience in the outside world. It's so satisfying to 'see the light bulb turn on' when they are shown, for example, how a pinecone represents the Fibonacci series, or a fern a fractal.
My formal education includes a B.S. degree in Chemistry and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering both from Purdue University. I enjoy teaching and took the opportunity to serve as a Chemistry T.A. (teacher's assistant) as an undergraduate. My master's program also included teaching Chemical Engineering classes to undergraduates. During my career with Eastman Kodak and Vertis, I have been involved with technical training of software applications and processes. I love math and science and enjoy teaching others how fun it can be!

A Little Bit About Me...

I'm a hardworking individual and I love to help. But I believe that help is a two way thing. I expect the student to help me identify her or his difficulty in a particular problem that way, I can help the student solve the problem and other problems that might arise. I also encourage students to always attempt the problems and in doing so, they discover their potential if they do it right if not, they learn and do it well next time.
Being a first generation student, assisting students to achieve optimum academic excellence has been a fulfilling and rewarding experience. I have a BS degree in Aerospace Engineering and a minor in Mathematics. I have tutored college Mathematics and Physics for almost 2 years. I also have leadership experience as a former represantative in Student Goverment Association and resident advisor.
