My motivation for applying to Advanced Learners is two-fold: primarily, teaching is something that I am passionate about and is our “family business” so to speak, my parents have a combined fifty plus years in education, it is through this noble cause that they have chosen to give back to the community. Secondly, Collaborating with local businesses owners and bringing “real-world” problems into the classroom demonstrates practical problem solving, while reinforcing business theory and concepts. A Little Bit About Me...

While I like students to know that I am an expert in my subject field, I also want them to take the opportunity to learn critical thinking skills. I want them to gather information, ask questions and break things down to a level that makes sense for them. With that being said, I believe I have a teaching style that resembles that of a facilitator. The overall challenge is to help students reach their capacity for independent action, initiative, and responsibility. The students I've mentored and tutored have worked with me in a more consultative approach where they can see me as someone to provide support and encouragement -- not always answers.

Every student also can learn differently, whether it be by incorporating more or less visual learning strategies, auditory learning strategies, or using more of the "hands on" approach. Learning can be and should be fun! I love teaching a student to success and when they enjoy what they are doing they are much more likely to succeed!
