In 20 years of teaching experience I have tutored students of all ages, different socio-economic backgrounds and intellectual abilities, as well as in a wide variety of subjects. I have tutored in four public school systems, in private practice with with adults who needed help to prepare for tests and for adults who either wanted to study for their own enrichment or to advance in the corporate world.
The most important thing when working one-on-one with a student is to find out the best ways that student learns. Patience is important, as is humor.

My comments on tutoring Government : I am really good with government, especially as it pertains to international studies. My bachelor's degree is in international studies from Kenyon College.

I am very experienced in teaching small groups of college level students. During my senior year of college I was selected to be a Russian apprentice teacher through Kenyon College's Intensive Language Program. I taught students three times per week for approximately an hour each session. I had to go through training for this position, which taught me how to design lessons and utilize teaching tools to help students understand the material. As I am a recent graduate myself, I understand the needs of most students and what it takes to keep them engaged in learning. For example, I frequently used games as memorization tools for students that focused on repetition as a learning aid. In September, I am leaving to take part in the Peace Corps as a teacher of English language in Ukraine. I plan on pursuing teaching as my future career and want to keep building on my experience.

My teaching style depends on the student. Some students need more visual and audio while others depend on memorization. I like to modify my style that suits their needs as a learner. I beleive in comprehension skills, memorization and learning key concepts to help them link connections.
I am currently a substitute teacher and work everyday in one of four school districts in the Rochester area. I enjoy helping and tutoring kids. A Little Bit About Me...

Since learning is such an individual endeavor, I believe that flexibility is one of the most important ingredients for good teaching. A good teacher (or tutor) is responsive to the student's learning style, and indeed, to the student's mood during any given learning session. I feel that I am attuned to the cues that most students give and am able to respond with an a approach that would be most effective. During my employment at Xerox, I successfully completed my Master of Science degree and continued to advance in the engineering field.
