A Little Bit About Me...

I feel that I excel in putting myself in the student's shoes. By trying to understand their thought process, I can best teach by making sure the student follows the logic of the subject. I have always believed that allowing the student to reach understandings through subtle guidance by the teacher is the best process. This method allows students to retain information better and feel more comfortable with the material.

Teaching has being a part of my life because I love to help people understand things and from my college days we usually organize a class where we tutor our classmates on subjects they still had difficulty understanding. I understand that we all have different speed at processing information, and that is why I volunteered for one year to teach high schooler. My teaching style is to review the fundamentals. If I find deficiencies, I address these first. I then introduce the subject core using applications that the student can relate to. I get students to participate in solving problems by working through the steps in turn. I keep track of student preparation for accreditation by giving home work assignments. I keep notes on lessons and student progress. While offering words of encouragement, I keep the student informed about the progress and indicate that there is still time for excellence.
As an Engineering major I tutored students in Math for 2 years to pay for my education. With normal class size groups... the goal is to provide a lesson with real educational content but to deliver it in a totally entertaining format... usually organizing the students into groups to a) provide support for the challenged and b) excitement for the total class as each group competes against the others. one-on-one teaching requires that the objective(s) be well established and then carefully focus on the individual student's best learning method, be it: verbal, written, reading, hands-on, or all of the above. A Little Bit About Me...

As a high school student, I had a part time job tutoring a younger high school student in mathematics and SAT preparation. This job was 4 nights a week and lasted all during my senior year. As a college student, I would frequently help friends and family with high school chemsitry in a one-on-one formal setting. I also further tutored my brother's friend in SAT preparation. After completing my degrees, I did some tutoring for my future sister-in-law in college level organic chemistry.
My teaching "style" is process-oriented. I first explain the fundamentals or theory, then do an example, then work through an example with the student, and finally allow the student to complete a problem on their own.
