I have taught Spanish as well as tutored people in Spanish, music (guitar) and English composition. Also, I have some experience with teaching English as a Second Language. I taught beginning level Spanish to 8-12 graders for one year. Then I work with them on being able to articulate and write their ideas down...subject matter follows naturally if they have the confidence and can just think for themselves not just spit back facts and what others want to hear. My teaching style revolves around helping the student rationalize the information. I believe it is highly important the student learns to differentiate between the subjective and the objective, providing them with the tools that they can utilize for the rest of their educational and professional careers.
I maintain a high level of patience in dealing with other people. During my studies as an undergraduate and in veterinar school, I have gained extensive knowledge in many subjects. I like working with children of all ages. I believe that children of all ages and cultural backgrounds can learn if given a proper chance. I even managed to teach children in South Korea, when I didn't speak Korean at all and my students had limited English skills. I taught them through games and use of our workbooks and student books. I believe in making learning a fun experience with lots of games and an easy going manner. If the kid is bored or unhappy, it is going to make it much harder for the child to learn. The civil engineering program that I successfully completed into a 4 year BS degree, was math and science intensive, with about half the courses requiring laboratory work. My highest math course was in differential equations, also I completed physics, chemistry, and electrical course material. I have had 9 years experience as either field engineer or construction superintnedent. Writing reports, conducting training and development seminars was a standard part of either job, whether the subject was construction means and methods, safety concerns or design changes. Communicating, informing, instructing and guiding were mandatory capabilites.
