My name is Brian, I Graduated Longwood University of Farmville Virginia's Pred med Biology/ Biomedical Health Concentration Bachelor's of Science degree program. I analyzed and processed the water of streams, ponds, creeks and run-offs under the Appomattox River Water Quality Monitoring Program through Longwood University and the Department of Environmental Quality and Environmental Protection Agency closely monitoring levels of Escherichia Coli and heterotrophic bacteria. I was in the American Society of Microbiology and gave a presentation at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) regarding this information. I have a relaxed, stress-free teaching style, while staying on task and topic. I make sure the pupils really understand the material by breaking things down to the basics, and reviewing the foundations. After reviewing and application of the concepts, I have my students switch roles and "teach" me the material. I believe if you can explain the material to someone else, you really understand it.
I double-majored in biology in chemistry in undergrad, so the field of science and medicine is my first love and my strength. The most important skill I can teach someone is how. I believe in not only helping students to understand the material but instilling in them a joy of learning. I want students to understand how to get to the answers, why the answers are correct and how to do it themselves. This skill boosts self esteem and confidence. I also believe that it is very important to teach study skills and techniques that can be applied to master any subject or exam. Sometimes students get overwhelmed, but one of the most important things a student can learn is how to plan ahead and use their time efficiently.
