I have three years of teaching health education in the school system. This experience and my own personal experience have taught me that students sometimes need someone to show them a different way to study and learn. Each student is different and a general way of teaching may not work for everyone. I have tutored students in high school biology in the past. Hands-on. I worked for Kankakee Community College for one year as a Math and Spanish tutor in 2006 and 2007. During this year, I honed the mathematics I learned through high school as well as the four years of Spanish I had taken to that point. My teaching style is helping the student arrive at the correct solution. In problem based courses this is usually done through asking the student what they think the next step should be and guiding them through the process of problem solving. Once they start to understand problem solving then they do not only improve in the course that I am tutoring them in but in their other courses as well. In a nutshell I try to help students learn how to learn. I tutored all through college. I have tutored one-on-one and small groups, and I have also been a TA and taught a few class periods.
