I believe in a teaching style that reflects a student's learning style. Whether they learn best by hearing, seeing, or doing it is important to cater to the student. My teaching style works around this philosphy and tends to be a combination of all 3 styles. Although I have recently graduated with a degree in business, I am interested in pursuing a career involving people. My previous employment was a sales position that was very customer-oriented. I also have 3 years of experience helping children by teaching swimming lessons. Assisting my 15-year-old sister with her school work is also a regular activity.

I attended the University of North Dakota for 4 years and in that time received a BA in Anthropology which has provided me the experience and knowledge of helping people in holistic ways. I now attend graduate school to obtain an MS in Applied Anthropology. Just about every semester I have written a 7-15 page research paper and have written several other essays, reports, and assignments in general. I have also done research for domestic violence organizations and helped teach college-level introduction courses. Teaching is a wonderful experience! My teaching style is laid-back, I'd say. I like having conversations in order to determine how someone learns. I think people learn best when discussing the material and really think it out before they start creating something. I grew up in a household that valued education and creative learning. As a result, I have always been driven to do my very best in all subject areas. I officially started tutoring in 2002, at Southwest Minnesota State University. My initial subjects were Algebra and Finite Math. Since then, I have tutor in a number of subject including English, vocabulary, basic Science(s) and Social Studies. I have worked with students of every age from those just starting at 3 and 4 years of age, to more non-traditional students over 50 years of age. I have also been blessed to work with students from various cultural backgrounds. I understand that each student is an individual, and I like to get to know him/her as a person. This allows me to utilize the students major styles of learning and develop the areas where they may struggle. Teaching this way helps mold a complete student who is able to understand themselves and can learn from any lesson. While attending and completing four years of Education courses at a well respected institution I was focused and driven to complete the curriculum and focus on creative lesson planning. Maintaining a GPA of 3.6 in Education courses while participating in four years of collegiate sports really polished my ability to multi-task.
