I have spent 2 years assisting elementary school teachers, grades kindergarten/1st/2nd. I was mainly involved in learning activities which consisted of reading, writing, spelling, and object identification. I was also involved in assisting the kids in group activities such as arts and crafts and outside activities. I've also graded students classwork and homework, and participated in story time, in which I read a variety of books to kids while providing mental stimulation as well as verbal entertainment.
My teaching style is patient because I was working with younger kids, providing a demonstration of what I wanted then to do before asking them to do it, if it involves writing or any other type of physical activity. I am kind of new to teaching. I have taught my little brother everything he knows, and I've been told I have a really good way of teaching. Younger students catch on very quickly to what it is I am teaching. If they don't catch on quick, then no problem. I'm very patient and never give up until a student understands the concept. I have taught music in public education for the last 15 years. I have been involved in church music ministry for over 25 years, and currently am the church pianist in Stockton, Ca. I love working with children of all ages. Math is my second love and I almost majored in math instead of music. Math was always easy for me in school. Although I don't enjoy writing, I am very strong in written English and enjoy proofreading papers.
I strive to include various learning styles when working with children. Some students learn best by listening or writing, while others need movement or tactile experiences to help in comprehension.
