Especially in private tutoring session, I am devoted to my student, planning the lesson around his/her specific needs. With regard to foreign language tutoring, I try to create a "full immersion" environment by mainly speaking in the target language. I know how to explain grammar in an age appropriate manner, and have always been a very patient tutor and instructor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to have fun with my lessons. Getting the students to understand and enjoy their time with me makes them more likely to want to work harder.
I received my English degree in the spring of 2011. I stayed at Purdue University, completing my Student Teaching in the fall of 2011. I received my certification to be a Secondary English Teacher in Jan of 2012 and have kept it up to date since. I worked in South Korea for four years (2012-2016), teaching a wide range of students English. I have a lot of experience with ADD/ADHD students as I am one. I am also experienced with Asperger's as I was diagnosed with it in college.

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I have had experience with two students diagnosed with dyslexia and was grateful to have caught it early on so to help both students and parents through this process. Most to all dyslexic children fell out of place in the class setting, because they feel they are not as smart compared to their peers. Its very important for these children to be motivated and have the help from parents, teachers and tutors to help them get through their insecurities.

I am a very outgoing and energetic but patient teacher. I will often push my student beyond what they believe they are capable of. For example, my lowest kindergarten class by the end of the fourth semester was reading second grade level books and worksheets. My second grade level students were reading by the end of the second semester fourth to sixth grade reads. I will never encourage failure out of a student nor will I tolerate the child to feel they are not smart. I understand there maybe some hurdles a child goes through and with just a little push in the right direction they can succeed in anything.
I have taught elementary children, grades kindergarten through the fifth grade for three years overseas. I have also tutored for over four years. I was the head kindergarten teacher, phonics and reading teacher. I oversaw the kindergarten teachers, reviewed curriculum for each se ... read more

Learning is not optional. Remember...

My teaching style varies from one student to another depending on their learning style and strategies. However, in most cases, I tend to fall under the natural and communicative teaching approach for most of the subject matters.
I have been teaching and tutoring a diverse student population for almost 9 years. So far, it has been a mutually interesting experience for both parts, students and teacher. I started my teaching career through instructing languages, mainly French, my native language, for the one and a half year, and then I included different sorts of Math as well till the present. I have in possession a Bachelor's degree, two Master's degrees and an ongoing PhD. My main field stream is teaching methods and theories of languages, multiple subjects and special need instruction as well. More About This Tutor...

I have worked with children in the public school system for thirty-four years as a classroom teacher, Title I augmented reading teacher and as a media specialist. Largely due to my years experience as a reading teacher my class of inner city children scored in the top one percentile on the Georgia Criterion Reference Test(GA CRCT) in Reading. I have always felt that if you give a child the wings to fly via reading and life long love of learning they can achieve whatever they desire in life, and I think I have been quite successful in this area.
My strongest area of expertise in teaching is reading. I have taught it for years. I have come to the conclusion through both personal experience, observation of other master teachers and through current educational research that it is most necessary to teach reading and math daily in a systematic manner while exposing the students to a le ... read more

More About This Tutor...

If students don't learn the way we teach, we must learn to teach the way they learn. I believe in Orton-Gillingham's philosophy of teaching everything using as many senses simultaneously as possible. Thus, I introduce and teach using manipulatives so lessons are hands-on and active. We move at a brisk pace and do not waste precious time! I love children and want what is best for them. They recognize this very early and work hard in return. It is especially rewarding to watch their confidence and self-esteem soar as they gain academic competence!
I have expertise in teaching reading and math from infancy to grade 8. I have successfully tutored college math and English. I have taught 6th, 1st, 4th and 2nd grade in SC and GA public schools. I have taught in a private school specializing in students with learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, and autism. In 1999, I developed and o ... read more
