My comments on tutoring ADD/ADHD : Many years of experience in teaching students with an ADHD diagnosis.

I began my career teaching music to students in grades K-8. I have always loved the Special Needs students and thus chose to pursue my Master's degree in the Special Education field. My first Special Ed. assignment was for ADHD and LD students in 7th grade Math and Language Arts. From there I have progressed to being the Lead teacher in inclusion settings as both the regular education teacher and the special education teacher. I am experienced in interpreting testing results and IEP writing and would willingly serve as an advocate for your chile and advocate. I am currently teaching grammar and composition to college level students.
I believe in meeting a student at whatever level he or she is ready to work. I am friendly and like to develop a personal relationship with my students in order to know how to serve them better. I use technology as appropriate.

Accounting Tutor w/ Masters Degree

I have both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Accounting. After receiving my masters in 2005, I went on to work in public accounting for 5 years where I gained experience as an auditor working for a Big 4 CPA firm. Part of my job responsibilities were to develop and coach new staff while on the job. This requires teaching them how to apply their accounting knowledge learned school as well as teaching them accounting principals that were both new or forgotten. During that time is when I discovered that I loved to teach, and I have been tutoring privately ever since. My work experience also includes working as a tax consultant and a business analyst for two different private companies here in Knoxville. That said, I am confident that my background and experience in accounting work be to your benefit. Lastly, over the past few years tutoring college student students, I have accumulated a wi ... read more

I love teaching and tutoring children of all ages. Although I have only formally been tutoring for about 6 years, I was a tutor all through my childhood helping other children learn when I finished with my classwork. Since first grade I have always wanted to be a teacher, although my brain tried to steer me in a different direction in college. Yet, my heart brought me back to teaching. I am very considerate of every child no matter their weakness; however I play close attention to their strenghts and play off those strenghts in the classroom. I believe every child has a desire to learn deep within them, some just have to remember how good it feels to learn, especially when he or she has tried so hard.

More About This Tutor...

With my numerous experiences in education, I think I could be a great asset in helping students become more knowledgeable. I have worked as a Tutor, Assistant Teacher, and did a short placement as an Interim Teacher. I can easily adjust to changing environments that will best suit the student’s potential. I was a Tutor in an after school program, and was an Assistant Teacher in a Special Education classroom. I finished an Interim Teaching placement in a middle school A.P. English classroom.
I have a somewhat relaxed teaching style that does not compromise the distinction or respect between student and teacher. This teaching style results in a classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable responding to my questions and asking for further clarification about complex topics. Many students have told me that my teaching style is refreshing and they feel comfortable in class.

A Little Bit About Me...

Working with different age groups, have shown me that every child is their own individual. I get to know the children I work with to understand the best approach to take with them. I can work in small groups, large groups, or individual. Some children are shy and may work better alone. It takes patience to teach and I am blessed to have that gift.
I was determined to be the first to attend and graduate from college out of a big family. I have learned different aspects of Psychology to apply to everyday life. In the last 10 years, I have been working with troubled teens to help them get their lives back on track. I have also done some tutoring in between.

I have a comprehensive background in both early childhood, elementary, and secondary schools. As a special education teacher, I am familiar with a vast range of student needs and current research-based practices to be used within the classroom. This knowledge has enabled me to grow as a professional, while allowing my students to thrive at his/her education level. While teaching in New Mexico, I taught using "English as a Second Language" models and strategies to non-native English speakers. This allowed for my delivery to be fine-tuned in a way that is more extensive based on individual need. I combine my experience and education in a style that serves to enhance learning, while being committed to professional development. I am currently tutoring online and working independently for an educational assessment company.

I am currently a PhD candidate in Ecology at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Throughout my education and short career I have developed teaching skills through tutoring, teaching labs to middle school students, mentoring high school students and giving informational talks on environmental issues to the public. I enjoy teaching and I feel that I have a gift for explaining science and math to people unexperienced in these subjects.
I believe in inquiry based learning, or teaching any subject by incorporating the student's natural curiosity and drawing connections to their interests. I don't taking a long time to teach a student how to approach a single problem or concept and foster their understanding of the material so that they will understand how to approach the problem on their own. In other words, I put energy into explaining why they should do something so that they can r ... read more

I believe in inspiring children to be intrinsically motivated to learn. By learning who a child is we, in turn, learn how to teach them. As a preschool teacher I am patient, encouraging, and motivated. My motto is "if at first you don't succeed try again" and it goes not only for the student but also for the teacher. I try to bring in as many outside experiences as possible to help children form connections to what they're learning in school, and the real world. As cliché as it sounds children are the only future we have and we can give them the incredible gift of knowledge and the confidence that they really can do anything.

As a special education teacher, I am required to possess patience. I feel I have a great deal of patience, as I taught students with moderate to severe disabilities. My teaching style was one in which I developed creative ways to achieve specific life goals. Age appropriate materials and activities were a must in my classroom and although a student may have been learning his/her colors, I would use functional things to teach them such as road signs, rather than the common elementary objects such as balls, counting bears, etc. I believe that all students are handicapped, some just more so than others. If I can make a difference in just one students life, I have helped a generation.
As a special eduation major, I was provided with various methods of teaching using adaptations and modifications to meet student's needs. I taught at the high school level for 3 years. As a require ... read more
