I am an award-winning journalist and editor with 10 years of experience. I graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor's degree in journalism. I also concentrated on English, political science and history while in school. While in college, I was the teaching assistant for advanced reporting and advanced editing, two capstone classes for a bachelor's degree. In those positions, I mentored students one-on-one, and I helped them improve their writing and editing skills. Since graduation, I have volunteered as a teacher for religious school, and I also freelance as an editor for several professional publications. I earned a 31 on the ACT and a 780 on SAT II: Writing. In a nutshell, I taught high school English for eleven years. I am passionate about all facets of education in the classroom and the real world. My entire background revolves around teaching. I taught in a Preschool while I was working on my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. While there I worked with all ages from Infants to the School Age children. After completing my degree I then went to teach in a public school. The first year I taught and ran the Preschool Program of about 50 children, ages 3 to 5 years. The next four years I taught third grade where our emphasis was on reading comprehension, analytical thinking skills, and writing. Although I have only been teaching in a classroom setting for the last two semesters, I have spent a great deal of time teaching friends and fellow students over the years. I am very patient and able to adapt to the student with whom I am working. I am a firm believer that learning, and learning math especially, is not a spectator sport and that a great deal of practice is required to fully understand most material.
