A Little Bit About Me...

During my sophomore year in high school I decided to begin tutoring ESL students. I found the ability to help others succeed very rewarding, and began tutoring fellow classmates in courses including but not limited to English, math, biology, and chemistry. These sometimes difficult subject always made sense to me and I enjoyed watching as the students I tutored were successful. I have in that time earned a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Florida State University. During my undergraduate career, there were multiple influences that contributed to my passion for teaching. First, I tutored college students from Asia who were exchange students. This gave me the opportunity to apply what we learned in the classroom, and adapt to a culture that learns differently than Americans. Second, I tutored a high schooler in Spanish. I used this as a tool to see how a person can still learn when they are not interested in the subject. Third, I taught English last summer in Mexico. I attended the University of North Dakota for 4 years and in that time received a BA in Anthropology which has provided me the experience and knowledge of helping people in holistic ways. I now attend graduate school to obtain an MS in Applied Anthropology. Just about every semester I have written a 7-15 page research paper and have written several other essays, reports, and assignments in general. I have also done research for domestic violence organizations and helped teach college-level introduction courses.

I believe a successful instructor is the most important part of teaching; one who is knowledgeable, wise, and be able to effectively communicate the knowledge to the students.
