Currently, I work as a substitute teacher, teaching math and science at a local public school district. I hold a bachelor's degree in biology and associate's degree in computer network engineering, which provides me with a strong background in math and science. This can be demonstrated by my scores in the praxis exams. My passion is to teach and to help my students succeed. I work with all children, teaching in elementary and secondary education.I believe all children can learn. After college I worked for three years.During that time I applied and received a scholarship to the Medical College of Pennsylvania, from which I graduated in 1994. I completed an Internal Medicine Residency at MCP in 1997. After residency I worked as an attending physician in Pittsburgh from 1997 to 2000, and in Berlin, Maryland, from 2001 to 2004. In January, 2004, my wife became severely ill, and I decided to take time off to raise my two young daughters. I taught at the Dawn Training Center in Wilmington, DE, from May to October, 2006. I also have extensive experience teaching junior housestaff and Nurse Practitioner trainees. I have a fairly informal teaching style, and I tend to use a lot of humor. I try to connect the information I am trying to convey to what the student already knows, rather than simply provide facts to be learned by rote and regurgitated on an exam.

I have a B.S. degree in music. My instrument is classical guitar, with which I have developed a great degree of skill and I have performed many recitals. I also have extensive experience in composition, music theory and eartraing/sightsinging. In addition, my education has given me good writing and research skills. I love teaching people about music and I believe that with good training and studying people can accomplish their goals. I enjoy teaching students who are eager to improve their skills. I am very good at easing the anxiety that many students feel when faced with unsatisfactory grades while presenting information in a simple and approachable tone. I believe that most academic problems are the result of a breakdown in the fundamental skill set that students are expected to have. As a result, I find that working slowly and methodically to evaluate each necessary skill is the best approach. In 2009, I graduated from Wesleyan University with two bachelors degrees, a BA in Government and a BA in Music. In combining two drastically different fields of study, I was able to develop a level of versatility and perspective that will serve me quite well as a tutor. I believe in practice and examples as the clearest path to success. I don't hand deliver answers and I make the process towards answers engaging. I make sure the time and place are conducive to active and non-distractive learning. I relay the importance and relevance of the material.
