My comments on tutoring Desktop Publishing : I have worked with publishing programs since 1990 with large publishing companies.

I work normally in groups to mentor staff/clients or students to understand the importance of great design through typography and quality design using basic programs like pagemaker through to InDesign. Individual one-on-one is preferable as I can dedicate my time to bring out the creative expressions. Professional design can make the difference by setting you apart from the competition. I consider myself more of a facilitator than a dictator but I do expect my students to show initiative. My goal is for every student to succeed.
I have historically been a sketch artist. This talent led to me into graphic design for advertising. I later majored in advertising and worked several internships and practicums with a variety of ad agencies and publication, including Southern Living. Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.
I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.

I think students either learn kinesthetically, visually, or auditorally, for the most part.
