A Little Bit About Me...

During my course as a math tutor, I’ve found one on one tutoring to be most effective. Each child presented different needs and was receptive to different teaching methods, so I would meet with them individually. I believe each child is just as likely to succeed as the next one, and as a tutor, it is my job to encourage and instill confidence in them.
As I approach my college graduation, I have realized how fortunate I am to have been given the opportunity to attend college. I understood the importance of understanding math in life early on and my Finance degree only validated that notion. As a teacher I witnessed first hand the challenges students face in public schools. Due to the importance placed on standardized tests, students are often taught with a single focus in mind. Often times the different needs and learning styles of students are overlooked or ignored completely. I, on the other hand, prefer to take a holistic approach to education. I attended the college of The Virgin Islands (presently University of the USVI) and graduated with a Bsc in Biology in 1986. While in college I became captivated with computers and programming. Since I already had a keen interest in electronics, I pursue job opportunities that were computer related after I graduated. As a result all my jobs were of a technical nature. My love for the Sciences has never diminished and I have kept up with Math and Science subjects to stay in tune. I love being around and teaching kids. I am constantly around kids now. I am a single parent of a 10 year old dughter, and i am very into her school. First off i don't believe that a kid is dumb or doesn't know how to do anything. Children only know what we teach them. So if a child doesnt know how to do something it is a reflection on the teaching that he/she has had. I have never had a kids come to me and leave without learing more than they knew before they got to me. I believe in practice makes perfect, especially in math.
