Right after graduating from St. Rose I wanted to get right into the field and gain experience. Therefore I was a substitute teacher for grades K through 5. When I was receiving my Master's Degree I took on a long term sub position teaching 3rd grade. After I completed my Master's Degree in Reading I obtained a postion teaching Academic Intervention Serives Reading to 8th graders.
I love the feeling of knowing that I helped a student accomplish something that they may not have believed they could do. Tutoring should be a tool used to complement traditional education. When tutoring there is little help in providing information to the student the same way that the teacher presents it. Tutors may also fall into the trap of simply giving the student the answers. For these reasons I prefer an holistic approach to tutoring. Every student is different and they all have different ways of understanding the material.
