My comments on tutoring Accounting : I am a CPA in the state of Ohio. I am teaching accounting at a local college. I have tutored students in accounting.

I stated my career as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher in Oberlin Ohio. I taught two years at Beachwood High School, teaching algebra, geometry, physics and calculus. I went back to school to receive my masters in accounting. I work for a large public accounting firm and received by CPA license. From public accounting I started my internal audit career. I would like to work with a student needing help w/ acctg.

As a Senior in college, I worked the help room for students taking the first year accounting class. I spent my time answering questions and helping people work study questions. I would like to think that I was able to help some students. Accounting is not an easy subject to learn for someone who has never been exposed to it. I feel I have the proper background to help. I have a bachelor's degree in Accounting and I am a CPA. My current full-time position is as a Controller for my company. I also work part-time for HR Block preparing tax returns.
I would let the student try to work the problem and explain what he or she knows. Then I would explain how the correct answer is arrived at and review with the student. I would then select another similar question to see if the student can apply what we just discussed.

A Little Bit About Me...

I never really considered myself a teacher as much as just someone who understood something a little better than someone else. To that extent I guess my style is more of helping someone to gain a better understanding of a particular topic or process. Discussion and example as well as some actual hands on tasks will help someone to discover their own potential for understanding and mastering the topic at hand. I believe that instructional strategies should be varied and flexible. Students are unique and their learning styles are different. Teachers need to have varied instructional strategies to try and meet the needs of the diversity of their students. I believe that knowledge of subject matter is extremely important, but not the sole component in instruction. In Mathematics, teachers need to have an understanding of mathematics as well as methods for transferring this knowledge to students. I have loved teaching and still keep in touch with many of my former students. In fact, I have taught many of their children! I seem to end up helping students with more than just their homework. I have always had a talent for understanding that not everyone "gets it the first time." I had much trouble with science myself. A Little Bit About Me...

At MSU, I first worked as a Supplemental Instructor and then became a Graduate Assistant (before I even earned my Bachelor's degree) in the School of Business. I also worked in the math department as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant. I have taught business, accounting and math classes at the college level when instructor was absent. Accounting is by far my strong suit, followed by Excel, Economics and Math, however I do not use high-level math often, although I got A's in everything throughout college.
I enjoy teaching at a high school level or above. I am very hands on. I am a bit of a story teller - rearranging the circumstances of the problem into an issue more easily related to by the student. I am very patient and relaxed - there are very few people who have a lower stress level than I do.
