I began tutoring privately,as well as,for my school's learning center during the early 1990's. I have continued tutoring privately on and off for the past twenty years. I was a substitute teacher in California and Michigan during the 2000's. I also had my own high school level classroom in California for two school years. I was hired on an "Emergency Credential" because I had my BS but no teaching credential. I was laid off due to budget cuts in June of 2003. I also taught "at-risk" elementary age children during the summer for the Glendora Unifed School District in Glendora, CA. I tutored privately for three years from 2005-2008 in south Los Angeles County and north Orange County, CA. I can provide recommendations from these clients if you are interested. My youngest students were in first grade with my oldest students attending college.

My comments on tutoring Sociology : A favorite subject.

I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects like Economics. I have tutored for the Sickle Cell Organization in 2001, helping students catch up numerous missed assignments. I tutor when the opportunity presents itself. Last Summer-Fall I assisted a nursing student in Speech and helped with two research papers. More recently (Oct.2009-Jan.2010), I worked tutoring students grade 2-10. From April to June 2010, I tutored high school students from Highland Park High School in Basic Math and Geometry, and Algebra I & II. Starting the latter ... read more

I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. I will implement practices and materials I think will fit the student's profile. I feel a teacher wears many hats and you must be prepared to wear a different one any day.

I have tutored several students during my studies, specifically in the sciences and math. I also have excelled in my English and writing classes throughout high school and college.

A Little Bit About Me...

I attended Oakland University and earned a BS in Biology in 2008. Biology and chemistry fascinate me in many ways; however, for teaching purposes, i focus mainly on the academic part of these subjects. I was a member of the Oakland University Academic Skills Center, where i tutored biology, human physiology, general and organic chemistry, statistics and mathematics. Also i was a chemistry supplemental instructor for Organic Chemistry 1 and 2. My experience as a tutor opened up my eyes to many different types of learners, some are visual, some are auditory, and some are both. Everyone has different goals as a tutor, for me, my goal is always the same no matter who i tutor, to help understand and to enjoy the subject.
My style is discipline, thorough learning and practice. My best asset in tutoring would be communicating with my students. I'll never show any signs of superiorit ... read more

Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. I believe I have the ability to use an array of teaching styles to help children. I would enjoy the opportunity to help children learn.

I have been teaching for close to fifteen years now, and have had a great deal of experience in working with students from Kindergarten all the up to adult education. This has enabled me to become an extremely well-rounded, adaptable, and flexible educator who is able to wear many hats whenever necessary. I have taught most subject areas and tutored students for SAT/ACT college entrance exams, math, writing, english, Spanish, etc...
I believe in empowering our students whenever possible. By this I mean allowing the students to be in charge and have control over their own learning by giving students options. I like working with students in small groups, where I mix their levels of ability thus allowing then to learn not only from me, but from each other as well!

A Little Bit About Me...

I have privately tutored students that recently arrived from Japan in English with a focus on conversation to enable them to quickly feel comfortable in a new country. As they attained conversation skills I changed my focus to education based teaching with a focus on understanding the classroom teacher and being able to participate in the classroom discussion. I have a degree in English but I have completed through Calculus 2 and have taken Physics and Chemistry courses so I spread the focus of the lessons through different disciplines with the goal of facilitating classroom learning.
I build a relationship of trust with the students and offer positive reinforcement and use humor to engage all of them. My initial goal is to engage the students then move on to teaching with the final goal being the understanding of the subject in a way that is deeper then just memorization. I want t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Since a high school student I dream about to be a teacher. Now I think its my passion to teach and prepare our next generation for future and to make them successful in their career and life. I love to teach children and never get tense or hyper due to their mistakes, because children are in learning stage and we have to make them to learn as much as they can.
