While attending Brown University, I volunteered as a tutor at Providence Summerbridge, an enrichment program for inner-city middle school students. I realized that teaching was my passion and became a full-time ESL teacher at an elementary school in Washington, DC while earning masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from American University. Because I've worked with students who have various learning differences, I have a vast array of teaching strategies. What works for one child doesn't always work for another. I encourage auditory learners to always read the instructions back to me. It helps if they can explain the material as if they were teaching the subject. Visual learns tend to respond to charts, graphs, note-taking, powerpoint- anything containing shapes and color. Tactile learners have sensory needs.
