As a NOAA Corps Officer, I helped teach new personnel many facets of our day-to-day operations, from instructing new officers on getting their Officer of the Deck qualifications to preparing new survey techs for their hydrographer-in-charge qualification, and new deck hands assigned to my watch how to drive the ship and steer accurate survey lines. At Embry-Riddle, I often tutored friends and classmates, since I had a more advanced background than most of my peers.
My teaching style is tailored to the individual. The first thing I do when I'm trying to teach someone something is determine their learning style. If they don't know it I help them figure it out. I do find that most people learn best by diving in and doing it themselves first, while I serve as a "safety net". I love working one on one with students. I enjoy relating science to real day events and showing students how to think out of the box. I teach using neumonics, songs and repetition. I believe that science is one of the most important subjects because it teaches you how the world around you works. Most people believe that teachers chose the wrong profession and I think that society chose the wrong heros.
I graduated from Hampton University with a BS in Molecular Biology and my love for science pushed me to pursue a MS in Medical Science. I have been teaching 3rd grade Sunday School for two years. I have been assisting my children in an educational capacity for over 7 years.
