Over 8 years of passionate, creative teaching and tutoring!

I have always loved traveling, learning about different cultures, history, ideologies and of course food and have traveled to over 16 countries and lived in 5, Germany, Israel, Egypt, Turkey and most recently México, where my Spanish speaking and ESL teaching journey began. I have significant experience in Mexican culture from teaching English for 5 1/2 years to learners of all ages from young children to adults. I have experience teaching all subjects in bilingual primary schools and English Literature for a year in a private IBO (K-12) school in Querétaro, MX. The subjects that I taught to adults included conversation, Basic English literacy, Business English, and TOEFL preparation. While living abroad, I experienced firsthand the struggles and daily frustrations of not being able to communicate my ideas, feelings or simply ask for directions or order from a menu at a restaurant. English Teacher/Tutor/TESOL

I believe education should be fun and that students learn better when they are in a relaxed environment. Humor, praise, patience, and encouragement are essential to good learning.
I taught emergency response classes for the American Red Cross before going back to college. I then taught English composition classes, and I tutored in the university writing center for two years. Presently, I teach Intensive English for International Students at the University of Northern Colorado, including grammar, reading, vocabulary, computer skills, writing, and speaking/listening classes.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated this spring with honors from Carleton College. For my senior thesis in Math, three of my colleagues and I designed a Challenge Math curriculum for fifth grade students. Together we compiled our lessons into a book, and once a week each we taught a small group of students. When I moved to Boulder this summer, I began tutoring CU students, adults taking online courses, and high school students. I also have experience tutoring for the SAT, ACT, and GRE.
My teaching style depends on the student. Some students need me to explain the subject material to them rather than read it from the book, while other students benefit most if they work through a problem and then ask me a question when they get stuck. Though regardless of the student, I always ask questions as we go, because I know that students learn best when they engage with the material.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love the interaction between a teacher and their students. For me teaching is a form of self discovery. My students are like mirrors in which I see my strengths and weaknesses. I constantly learn from my students and I grow as they grow. I feel as individuals we are limitless and teaching reminds me of it as I see my students grow. My students in turn gain confidence about themselves through the same process of discovery. I am a great believer in that education is a tool to learn about yourself and to exercise self belief and confidence in yourself. I not only teach subjects, but also teach students to learn about themselves.
As a Computer Science graduate, I have had extensive experience in Mathematics, physics, and computers. As I have always been passionate about teaching, I always taught while attending school. Teaching and tutoring experience: - High school calculus ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching in both classroomas well as one-on-one settings here in the US as well as Europe and South East Asia for over 20 years. My students have been of all abilities and from as young as 3 to as "young" as 80. I have taught a wide range of courses including, writing composition, grammar, speech, social studies/cultural communication, ESL, conflict negotiation and mediation as well as test prep for SAT, TOEIC, TOEFL and the LSAT. I have earned a reputation among my students as an instructor you always conducts a vibrant, fun, interactive, multi-activity and thereby material jam-packed class, but balance this socratic teaching method with extremely demanding and challenging assignments and exams.

I have a strong, diverse background in education, from EFL instruction overseas, to public school classroom instruction and private tutoring, to individual and group piano lessons. I began tutoring and teaching piano when in high school and continued through college. After college, I directed an after-school program in inner-city Dallas, where students were given homework help and supplemental educational activities on a daily basis. While teaching English in Russia, I fashioned curriculum and activities, pre-K through adult. I have continued to teach English to language learners, and gained more knowledge and experience while working as a reading specialist at a public school in Commerce City.

From college through work in information technology, I found myself tutoring others. It is a joy to see that “Ah, I understand!” look on the face of another. So I switched careers to teach English as a foreign language. At first I taught at a private English school here. Then I spent over 2-1/2 years in China, teaching at universities and tutoring individuals. I've taught oral, written, listening, grammar and business English, as well as American literature and culture. Now I’m back in Denver. One-on-one teaching is the best way to assess a student’s needs and adjust my teaching methods for him/her. If you wish to learn, I can help you and we will both enjoy it. Resume and references are available.
My style is friendly, patient and understanding. I use a variety of techniques, from personal instruction to multi-media material. Depending upon the student’s needs, ... read more

I started teaching while in college; I worked as a Teaching Assistant when school was in session (teaching college students) and as a camp counselor at a French immersion camp in the summers. This allowed me to work with students ages 8-22 and to develop different teaching styles for different ages. I am currently writing my PhD thesis; although the subject is Francophone, I'm writing in English and feel that I have strong writing skills and the ability to teach them. I've taught English to non-native speakers in France as an "English assistant" as well as in the US as an ESL tutor. I recently started tutoring in a local school and am working with students on a variety of subjects, from GED to English.
I have a communicative and interactive approach to teaching. I believe that a child learns best when actively involved in the process of learning and discovery. I am also a very pati ... read more

As a graduate of the University of Maryland I had a desire to teach and help others in learning. With a BA in English Language and Literature with a concentration on ESL and an M.Ed. in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), I gained the skills and knowledge necessary in achieving my goals. I also have traveled to eight different countries and taught at all levels of education and to all audiences. I have taught elementary, secondary, college, university and adult education. I also taught a wide range of audiences ranging from elementary students to businessmen and politicians in classroom and one-on-one situations. I put my knowledge and skills to practice by teaching the brother of the former President of Peru (Fujimori). A ... read more
