Throughout high school, I had trouble trying to figure out what I wanted to do when I graduated. I took many classes that ranged from Weight Training to Biology. I took many Art classes in which I excelled at. I then took some Computer Technology classes and I loved it. So I figured I would put the two together and took Graphic Design classes. I loved it. I am very competent in using all sorts of Graphic Design programs. I got my first guitar around 8 years ago and just picked it up and learned it. I have been learning ever since. Earth Science is one of my top subjects! My Bachelors of Science Degree in Geology through Utah Valley University will be completed in April 2015. I was a Meteorology Instructional Assistant and tutored the course. I tutor all Earth Sciences.

I prefer sitting at the student's elbow, with the assigned work in between us, focusing on it together. I talk about "it" rather than "you" to avoid making the student self-conscious. Writing can always be improved, and each student has areas of strength and weakness. I try to pick one area that needs the most attention, and focus on it. When there is significant improvement, I move on to the next area of weakness. Pointing out all of a student's mistakes and weaknesses at once drains morale, and that is counterproductive. Working on one area at a time keeps the student from being overwhelmed. I like to have the student read out loud to me, so that we can both see what needs improvement. I feel that repetition is one key that helps students grasp difficult concepts. I start by helping the student understand what the question is asking. Then I will do a problem step by step, showing the student what I am doing. Next, I will have the student do the same problem, but recreate the steps that I had shown them, guiding them along the way. After this type of practice, we will move on to similar problems, using the same steps that we previously used. I have found that this system helps me learn the information and retain it.
