My tutoring experiences have been all throughout my life helping friends and family better understand mathematics. I've tutored for pay just once, one night a week for one year. This was while I was a student at Hampden-Sydney College; I worked through the College tutoring Calculus. Recently (in the past month), I've been helping a niece who is in the fourth grade and a friend who is a freshman in high school.
I'm passionate about what I do because I've been through classes in subject matter that I struggled in or was disinterested in and I want to be able to help others feel more comfortable in math where they might be weak or unsure. My experience tutoring began during my high school years, where I would tutor Spanish and English to my peers, especially focusing on written and oral language skills as well as literary analysis. While earning my undergraduate degree from Boston College, I worked as a tutor and mentor at a local elementary school. There, I assisted with math, phonics, writing, and science coursework, as well as any other assignments given to the students. Additionally, I volunteered at a local union, where I taught English as a second language to adults in a one on one setting. My favorite part about teaching is the moment that something "clicks" within a child's mind. I have earned two bachelor degrees, BS in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business and BA in Spanish.
