Sign Language is one of my top subjects! Hello my name is Lampra! I would like to say welcome to your journey of learning such a beautiful language. I started my journey of learning sign language at 5 years old. The passion and fire grew even more when I discovered that USF was offering a minor in American Sign Language. From the summer of 2008, I started teaching my friends and family sign language. It grew to teaching other individuals as I progressed through the program. As of today, I am heavily involved in the Deaf community. I have continue to teach different individuals from infants to the elderly as well as hosting Deaf social gatherings every weekend. I attend a Deaf ministry at a local church in Atlanta, which is totally awesome. I taught my 2 year old sign language when he was 3 days old. He is now fluent in it. I know that learning a new language is scary; however, if you have the right person, then it can be enjoyable. I started teaching Sign Language in 2005 and have enjoyed doing ever since. I have taught many students from infant to the elderly the beautiful language. My experience is that I teach hands on experience during my classroom experience with games, role playing, and more. Currently, I enjoy teaching companies and families of Deaf children sign language. I love children & teaching. Where there is a will there is a way for all children to learn. My motto is "The more you learn the more you know, the more you know the further you go," and I firmly believe in that. I believe that kids can have fun learning if you make the material interesting and somewhat tangible. When children have to sit without any interaction with their teacher or other students it makes learning a whole lot harder. If we as a society teach our children well, and make that extra effort to be sure they are learning, the world will be a totally different place. My teaching style with my own children is conversational, hands-on, and intuitive. I explore what most captures their attention, then weave in the lessons by using any available teaching aids, such as whiteboard drawings, to illustrate a point, literally.
My German parents spoke (so-called "high", or proper) German at home in NY/NJ, which came in handy after we moved overseas when I was 13. Repeating 7th grade, I learned to read and write German fluently, as well as master the local dialects and sundry colloquialisms without a lingering accent. Doing so allowed me mask my heritage, enroll in higher education, and learn a trade, culminating in a long and rewarding all-encompassing painting career abroad and in the eastern US, before settling in Texas to explore telecommunications. I widely regard the world as a large classroom/laboratory.
