I believe most of my success comes from continued conversations and ongoing discussions about best practices during staff meetings and professional development workshops. I believe if we can integrate content with cross-curricular themes and skills such as writing across the curriculum in all subjects, not just during the language arts block, All students can access prior knowledge and reframe their thinking when appropriate. Once we establish accountability through state standards, we need to teach one child at a time, at their own level and pace and eliminate lessons that do not move students toward meeting the standards. My B.A.in English from the University of Maine at Augusta, where I graduated magna cum laude, and my participation in the ProLiteracy America program as a Literacy Volunteer was inspired by my life-long love of literature. I have taken courses in Interpersonal Communications, Ethics, and Advanced Technical Communications, all of which expand my purview as a tutor.
