As a student I enjoyed most the teachers who facilitated learning. Teachers who lead students on a road of discovery as they learned, who taught me how to think and not what to think. I model my teaching after the same style I enjoyed as a student. Helping a student discover for themselves the material not only educates them but fosters a passion for the subject at hand. Rote memory has it's place and is essential, but when a student becomes passionate about a subject, then the door is open for them to excel at it. For over 15 years I've taught children from kindergarten through eighth grade in various settings. The majority of years I worked with first through fourth graders so I have accumulated experience in reading, math and language arts. I've spent several summers working through an area college helping grade school children make progress in areas they found difficult in the classroom environment. I've also spent two years tutoring in a classroom setting.
If I had to put a label on my teaching style, I would call it interactive. I believe children learn best if they are actively involved in the learning process.
