Learning needs to be enjoyable. When students enjoy what they are learning, that means that they are engaged in what they are learning. When students are engaged, they can better grasp the concepts being taught. I've taught creative writing to Japanese university students in English only (songs, stories and poetry) for two years, and ESL to all ages in Japanese society for 22 years. In America, I taught freshman public speaking, composition, and literature at the university level. Student-centered Tutor with lots of patience.

At this moment, I am a volunteer English/English as a Second Language Tutor at our community library. I tutor two elementary students in Reading and Writing two times a week. The younger student has a hard time focusing. I tried variety of things to help her. When we meet, I ask her first how was her day so I would know if she is tired or how long her attention span would be. After I try to ask her to read a small book that she picks. Expereinced SAT / ACT/ GRE tutor with perfect scores

The best successes come after their greatest disappointments

I have experience with pre k to 8th grade tutoring in Math and English tutoring to help students prepare for Iolani and Punahou entrance exams through Dr. Takahashi Juku. I love working with children and adults!

English is one of my top subjects! As English was my major in undergraduate and post graduate work, I am at ease with any aspect of the subject. I have taught English and its various components at public and private schools, from elementary to college level. I have also instructed students in verbal SAT prep for many years. In addition to enjoying all aspects of writing instruction, I find "teaching" reading just as stimulating. Students often have a hard time with assigned reading as they haven't found the tools to de-mystify the material. A Little Bit About Me...

I began playing piano at the age of 5. At 13 I started teaching piano in Hawaii Kai at the request of neighbors and the business has continued all these years. One of my former students is a police office now, one is a prosecuting attorney, one sailed on the Hokulea. I have great pride in feeling that my small role as a teacher helped steer them towards a successful career. We all know that music instruction helps students do better at school.
