A Little Bit About Me...

I work well with people and students. I love science and basic subjects. I enjoy working with different types of people and students. I helped in various grades in Waikoloa Elementary School. I assisted in performing lessons with the students and working with them one on one.I know the importance in education and getting the students to become interested again in what they can learn.
I have my BA in Natural Science and a Minor in Biology from UH Hilo. I then persued a Masters degree in Education and focused on Special Education. I have done a variety of power point reports and researches and have done extensive researches on various areas in the education field. I have worked as a teacher on the Big Island, and spent over ten years as a volunteer trainer at public access television facilities in New York and Texas. I am currently seeking tutoring work as I complete the last year of my online "masters in elementary education" program. I have a bachelors in Psychology, and twenty years of working experience, 5 in supervisory positions. I can teach elementary and high school level work. In the past I have taught primarily science, media and reading/writing. I am current on modern tutoring methods and practices.

After a childhood filled with the joys of reading I graduated from college with a BA in English. While I have continued to enjoy reading and writing, my interest turned to biology, specifically aquaculture where my area of expertise is shrimp breeding and farming. Through my work in shrimp culture I have traveled to Vietnam, Indonesia and India to teach shrimp and algae rearing to technicians in hatcheries.Now, while occasionally traveling as a consultant to shrimp hatcheries, I have returned to school to study substance abuse counseling. A Little Bit About Me...

My strategy to learning unknown subjects is very close to the same way children learn to walk, by immersion. Everything we learned as children was assimilated through watching, mimicking and attempting. I believe personal experience and learning are very close and in teaching I try to keep that in mind. I find myself a very visually inclined learner and utilize that to help others learn, such as drawing or watching videos. I have found that audio learners do well when given analogies and kinesthetic learners do well with drills or acting out what they have learned all to mimic what their learning so that it might sink in better much like how when we learned to say our first words.
