Multiple Strategies Used to Manifest Understanding

I am a kinesthetic, visual learner and that is how I like to teach. I was not one of those students who could hear a concept once and apply the it the next second with total understanding. I needed to draw situations out, picture guides, analogies, and other strategies that made it possible for my mind to grasp and understand. I use strategic questions to help guide students to the right answer without giving the answer directly to them. This allows the student to develop their own sense of logic when approaching problems so that when test time comes, they will be able to ask themselves questions similar to what I ask during tutoring sessions and help figure out the answer step by step. My style of tutoring will help students develop their logic and problem solving skills, so that even if a new type of problem is presented, they can use the methods they have learned to break the problem into easier portions and figure out how to solve it.

My teaching style varies with skill level. Some children need reinforcement schedules while others just need help puting their foot in the right direction. A Little Bit About Me...

I love to see the proverbial light come on and the students eyes widen and they say "OH! I get it!" I've tutored a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds. I try to make mathematics fun, like a puzzle to be figured out, and remove the "hard chore" stigma which is generally hard pressed into a students mind by the time I arrive. Getting the student to believe in themselves and believe mathematics isn't a daunting task it's just difficult until you learn the tricks is my goal. I've notice most students find word problems to be most challenging so I purchased a word problem book to draw examples from which seems to help.
