Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects! I have taught reading for four years. I have taught grades Kindergarten through fifth grade reading curriculum. I provide reading interventions daily for my students, as well as the core reading curriculum. I am familiar with Corrective Reading, Six Minute Solutions Fluency, Sound Partners, etc. I have had extensive practice with teaching comprehension skills and building blending/decoding skills. I use various teaching styles within my classroom. I try to find how my student learns best and accommodate to their needs. All students learn differently, so I try to be flexible in my teaching style. I do like to make teaching as visual and hands on as I can.

The process is just as important as the product. If a student can come up with the correct answer, but he or she has no idea how or why it is correct or how they got it, I feel like their learning is incomplete. Especially in Math, but also in many other subjects, concepts build upon each other. For this reason, I like to explain not just *how* to get there, but also *why* we got that answer; then students have a firmer foundation for the trickier concepts. I love seeing the lightbulb "go on," when kids finally "get it."

I have been a strong student all through out my educational career with a passion for learning and teaching others. I have previous experience tutoring in both English, ESL, and Math, working with students K-12 and some college level.
I prefer to let my tutoring sessions to be student led. What that means is that rather than treating the sessions like a teacher-student interaction, I let the student take responsibility for the work they want to improve. My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : I have worked with students from Kindergarden to 5th grade in reading comprehension.

When I was 5 years old I learned sign Language, I had a classmate who was deaf and I fell in love with the language. I went to the University of Nebrasaka-Lincoln majored in Speech Pathology and took a few sign language classes. I started interpreting in 2009 in a small town in Kimball Nebraska. I worked with a high school student while I was there. After he graduated high school I then got the opportunity to work in Scottsbluff Nebraska in an elementary school.
