I have a masters degree in Enviornmental Biology and a BA in pre-med sciences. I also have an AA degree in Dietetics. My other hat is a long career in writing, editing, and publishing. So, I am a grammarian and have taught English composition. I have been a substitute teacher for more than eight years in elementary, middle, and high school. I have 6 years of substitute teaching experience in the Washoe County School District in Nevada, as well as at a charter school. My comments on tutoring Writing : My students have demonstrated their writing ability in their emails with native English speakers in the business world. My students in school recieved better grades in their work. I measured my success as a tutor by my students test scores and feedback from business colleagues.

I believe learning should be two way. Students should learn from a teacher and the teacher should be willing to learn from the students. My lessons are personalized to the student needs. My lessons are interactive.

My teaching style comes more from a facilitators approach, and not a micro-management view. I have learned for the most part that students have the answers to questions and have original ideas, given the appropriate direction and positive support.
I have a Business Speech Communications degree with a minor in English. After achieving that degree, I went on to earn a secondary teaching credential in English. Later, I found an opportunity at UNR to become a tutor at the writing center. There I direct students to better their papers (in all disciplines) by facilitating. We work on structure, content, grammar, and form. Most students leave with a better sense of direction, usually a better grade, and most certainly a better sense of self and success.
