During my college years I worked closely with younger students who needed help with studies, and since my graduation from college continue to work with those that need assistance with various topics of learning. I have a wide range of capabilities including math, science, biology, public speaking, geography, and politics. While I work full time Monday through Friday during the day, I am available evenings and weekends. I teach to the student. I find exactly what their strengths are and incorporate it in some way to learn something new. Education is a set of building blocks and can only be as strong as the foundation. I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I spent a year as a Substitute Teacher in Lincoln, NE. I then took a year and a half break from teaching to recruit for a small college. I went back into teaching as a grade 7-12 mathematics teacher. I was responsible for the 7th grade through pre-calculus courses at Wheatland Public Schools in Madrid Nebraska. This school was then combined into Grant Public Schools. I am also a strong technical trainer in my current role and provide necessary computer and analytical training to all new associates at the current company I work for.

I have taught virtually every subject at every level (K-12) over the course of 25 yrs. It has been my conviction to provide every student with the best education possible, regardless of the subject; thus, I have taken numerous post-graduate courses, and I possess a personal library of approximately 4,000 books. I am particularly interested in and concerned about teaching students to read. I have read extensively and done some successful tutoring in this area. I believe everyone can learn to read if given the proper phonics curriculum. All students love to learn if you can find the key to their style and desire. I enjoy the "art" of teaching, finding the student's "key", and watching the "lights" come on. I see teaching as a dialog between teacher and student and adjust the speed and depth of my teaching to best help the student succeed. Most importantly I want to the student to leave with a greater understanding of the subject than when they entered. I taught recitation for Honors Differential Equations, Differential Equations, Calculus 3, Calculus 2 and Introduction to Computer Science as an undergraduate at Georgia Tech and physics and astronomy labs as a graduate student at the University of Tennessee. My main experience lies in working with elementary aged children in literacy and religious education programs. However, I received a bachelors degree in political science from DePauw University and a law degree (with honors) from the University of Nebraska, so I have a great deal of educational experience to draw from in teaching students as a tutor. In addition to my educational experience, I also have “real world” business experience and excellent research and writing skills through working as an attorney, all of which I will also draw from while tutoring.
