I love piano and schoolwork

I have been a math, science, history, and music tutor since high school. I conduct for a church choir and have taken piano lessons for many years. I a currently taking advanced lessons with my college professor. Being a part of many organizations in high school has made college a wonderful experience thus far. Teaching confidence through kindness and success

I taught high school social studies for 26 years at Tates Creek High School, primarily as a psychology teacher. I also taught a year at Tates Creek Middle School in the areas of Citizenship and American History. Since retiring, I spent five years as a substitute teacher in the Fayette County system, teaching everything in the areas of math, science, social studies, English and also in a variety of elective studies- from creative writing to geometry and history to earth science. My comments on tutoring Grammar : Grammar is difficult for many, but one of my favorite subjects. It is the implementing of rules and recognizing exceptions to these.

I have 27 years experience in the high school English classroom, and I have a Master's Degree in English from the University of KY. Currently, I am retired and tutor on the side, as well as, run my own business. When I was in the classroom, my students were energized. My comments on tutoring Grammar : Grammar is learned and practiced in context.

For the last 4 years, I have traveled to Mexico to teach. Previously, I spent three semesters teaching young adults and parents from all over the world at The Carnegie Center in Lexington, KY. I began teaching for fun over 15 years ago, giving English lessons to Latino horticultural workers during lunch. My background in advertising and writing seemed to help me move seamlessly into teaching. I returned to the university to study Spanish, and my ESL certification soon followed.
I teach a in a very relaxed, non-intimidating manner. Students are encouraged to speak and work with each other in group settings. I always determine each student's level of capability in order to teach at the appropriately. Each previous lesson is reviewed at the beginning of each class. Quizzes are given to measure students' progress, as well as student feedback to measure my teaching goals and objectives.
