A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience tutoring anything from phonics to college level writing. I taught preschool for a year and a half at the Lion and Lamb Christian Preschool in Reno, NV. I have also tutored at the UNR Writing Center (when it still existed) during the Fall semester of '08. Since October 2008 I have tutored at the Reno Huntington Learning Center where I teach phonics all the way up to SAT and ACT Verbal test prep. While at UNR I took an upper division English Class entitled "How to Tutor an English Writer." I also have a minor of Spanish from UNR. I am by no means fluent in the language but can read and understand it fairly well. I am comfortable tutoring anything below advanced high school Spanish.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love helping people achieve their dreams and goals and I have high expectations for all children and adults I am teaching. As an educator I encourage my students to believe in themselves and convince them they have the ability to be successful in whatever they want to achieve. One of my students was struggling with C's and D's for grades and he was getting extra help but he was frustrated. Once or twice a week we would chat about it. I encouraged him to put forth a little more effort and I promised him his studies would get a little easier over time. Sure enough I saw the young man the following year and he came running up to me to tell me he made the honor roll. I never gave up on him and I know I played a part in his success.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in tutoring computers for the last 6 years and facilitating study sessions in college for the last 4 years has refined my skills in directing absorption of knowledge in a direction that is organized and on-task. As an avid and trained grammarian and writer, my strengths are in English. As such, I was a paid tutor for Syntax, Principles of Modern Grammar, Phonology and Sociolinguistics classes over a few semesters.
