I am able to effectively relate/teach to people from different age groups, educational backgrounds, etc. My professor/mentor (Dr. Larry Hanne) has complimented on my ability to take complicated or difficult concepts and simplify them and then present them in a understandable way. I also teach students to actively think and challenge themselves academically so they can prosper.
I have earned a bachelors degree (BS in Biology) and I have excelled in my classes. I have taken 2 semesters of both general chemistry and organic chemistry. After performing at a high level in these courses, I ended up tutoring students in organic chemistry for about 2 semesters. Since I am currently studying for the MCAT exam (Medical College Admissions Test) my organic chemistry knowledge is fresh.

My teaching style would be that of Guided Discovery. This is a highly interactive style which leads the student to uncover the answer themselves as opposed to the teacher simply reciting the answer to them. Guided Discovery requires the student to learn by doing therefore developing necessary problem solving and deductive skills that will make them better learners and thinkers both now and in the future. I implement this style by asking leading questions, giving examples, making analagies and asking the student what they think or ask them to explain how they came upon a certain conclusion. As Cal Poly SLO has one of the most competitive engineering programs on the west coast, I have a depth of knowledge in both math and sciences. After earning my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering, I lived in Germany, Ohio, and Central California while trying to figure out my place in this world. I settled for two years in Salinas, California where I taught pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry to junior high and high school students. I believe this level of math is the most important as applications to everyday life are abundant.
As the school I taught at was private, the students were very competitive. I found my lectures and class activities reached 90% of the students.
