I have always endeavored to excel academically and so sought after and received a top-level education at Duke University. Having a love of language and having a desire to be able to teach at all levels, I obtained an MA in English from the UNC-G. I have had 43 years of teaching and tutoring at all levels, elementary through college. I have taught high school English, college English, SAT Prep, and GRE Prep---both the verbal and the math (I scored almost 800 on the math section). I meet with people who are divorcing or otherwise suing each other and persuade them, if I can, to settle their differences. Since the collapse of the housing market in Florida, and the elimination of home equity from which people financed mediation, the business has contracted substantially. After graduating with a BA in Literature/English and minoring in Secondary Education, I went on to teach Grammar, Composition and Literature to grades 8 through 12. I also taught Creative Writing and Composition to a repeating tenth grade class in an effort to improve their scores for the NC state mandatory writing test. We were successful. At my undergraduate program, my professor for a course in Symbolic Logic asked to refer students in the class to me, if they had questions about the material. After the class had finished, the professor hired me through the university's Philosophy Department as a tutor for the same class. After graduation, I acted as a private tutor in my spare time. At Columbia University I was a Teaching Assistant for three college courses, giving me my greatest experience with explaining course material to a large group of students.
