As I indicated, I have a B.A.in Philosophy and later studies in Art. Later, in 1975, I decided to return to obtain a DMD at BU. After that I joined the Army and served as an Army dentist. Due to events in my life following my brief sojourn in the Army, I traveled abroad to India and Asia. Upon returning, I continued to study, but this time in more spiritual matters. At college I worked as a tutor for two years in the areas of chemistry and mathematics. I earned BA's in chemistry and biochemistry and have some laboratory experience. Having been educated at a liberal arts school has also given me the opportunity to study philosophy and sociology. I also write well, as writing is emphasized in all disciplines of study at Knox. Previous to my college education, I was also active in my tutoring program in high school.
The most important part of teaching is to teach students the principle or concept behind a subject. I do not believe in making students memorize absurdly large lists of facts in order to pass a test. Learning should be more fundamental than that. When a student has been successfully taught something, the student should be able to solve an array of problems with a common theme.
