I did my internship at Springville High School and Dixon Middle School. At Dixon I was selected to help teach adults about the computer. I have 9 children. I was able to teach each of them. Some of them have gone on to higher education and have scholarships. I still have some at home and enjoy teaching them.
I like the tutoring environment because I like seeing individual progress. It is easier to assess where the child is. I believe that the basics are essential to moving forward in education. Memorization of math facts makes it easier for a child to learn new material because he isn't bogged down. I don't believe enough emphasis is placed on arithmetic in today's schools. First of all, I like teaching physics and math. Many students complained that physics was too hard for them to learn. I think the main problem is that they learned it too fast and couldn’t understand the basic concepts. They need some more time and patience to figure out the basic mechanisms and develop the necessary skills and abilities to solve the concrete problems. I teach mostly by working through application examples so that students can see what is actually happening more easily than a bunch of abstract theory. I do go over the theory while with the examples and I find that if students can see theory in application it improves understanding of both.
I received 2 degrees at BYU in Actuarial Science and Comparative Literature. For 3 1/2 years I taught the entry level statistics class and was always among the highest rated teachers. I loved teaching the class and that is why I did it for so long. Most of my students would say my class was the only reason they passed the course or even showed up for it.

If a student has a thorough knowledge of the basics, then he does not need to rely on root memorization or luck to pass classes. I believe teaching and learning the basics are far easier than simply attempting to pass a test or earn a decent grade.
