Results-driven tutor seeking to share my love of knowledge!

I graduated high school with a full International Baccalaureate Program Diploma, and a 4.53 weighted GPA. I then went on to receive a full ride scholarship to Santa Clara University for Computer Engineering, where I took part in the University's Honors Program. There I completed 3 years of study in computer science, classical languages, and Spanish, before deciding to change directions and gain real-world experience. After a brief leave of absence, I entered Licensing Education Courses for the field of Insurance, passed the License Exam, and went to work as the Vice President of Marketing for Financial and Insurance Services, an independent insurance brokerage in Fresno, CA. Feeling the urge to once again to change directions, I am taking took time to pursue my passion for poetry, competing in several contests and publishing an anthology of poetry on Amazon (“Automatic Phantom”). A Little Bit About Me...

For the last five years, I served as a biological speaker in a teenage association in the community center of my district in China. It was my responsibility to solve the problems that students brought and teach them to connect to the real world. Outside of school campus, I have not only been a group homework helper for some elementary school students, but also an in-person tutor of math, Chinese and visual art.

I have taught music in public education for the last 15 years. I have been involved in church music ministry for over 25 years, and currently am the church pianist in Stockton, Ca. I love working with children of all ages. Math is my second love and I almost majored in math instead of music. Math was always easy for me in school. Although I don't enjoy writing, I am very strong in written English and enjoy proofreading papers.
I strive to include various learning styles when working with children. Some students learn best by listening or writing, while others need movement or tactile experiences to help in comprehension. I believe in keeping students engaged at all times, to minimize wasted time. Every child has potential. A teacher just has to know how to reach each child, and that happens when the students builds trust with the teacher.

After earning my Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Mathematics in 1990 from the California State University at Stanislaus, I entered the credential program. In the credential program at C.S.U. Stanislaus, I became well prepared for all the nuances besides teaching that goes with being a teacher. I was introduced to the concept of classroom management, assertive discipline, and establishing a warm and friendly learning environment in the classroom. I learned and developed a repertoire of hands-on manipulatives, games, and puzzles to make the learning of math more exciting, fun, and easy. Today, I still use most of these techniques although some have been altered to be more effective.
In Ripon Unified I taught for 2 years. In Hawthorne Union I taught for 1 year. In Hayward Unified I taught for 6 years. For 2 years I taught in Stockton Unified. At the SIATech Charter School at the S ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is my passion, I believe that every student has the ability to do better and every student can be taught. There is no set method to teach as every person absorbs information differently. I like to teach by providing many different methods of instruction and then observing which is the best of my students. In the mathematics and science areas there are a variety of instruction methods. For mathematics, I teach a student how to do a problem, then go over a problem together before finally allowing the student to solve one. An educator needs to adjust their teaching method with every student he/she works with and I believe that this is one skill that I am excellent at.
I currently have a BS in biology with a Minor in Chemistry and 2 concentrations. Earning this degree enabled me to not only study biology, but also allowed me to study mathematics. I have taken math cours ... read more

I enjoy working with children. My theory of teaching is using the multiple intelligence theory. I believe that all children have the capacity to learn but in their own way. I like to incoporate different styles of learning in a lesson. I also like to incorporate hands on activities, because I believe that doing is learning.
I have been working with children from K-12 grade since 2001. I was part of the Math Academy in 2002. I have been subsituting in grades K-8 since 2009. I believe anyone can teach a subject, having enough knowledge of a subject allows one to pass it on. However, I feel what many teachers do not do is teach students how to learn. It is in my belief that teaching students to learn enables them to think independently allowing them to become more creative rather than repetitive. So not only do I teach students the subject, I teach them how to learn and apply it to every other subject.
As a accomplished student, I realized I always had help along the help with achieving academic success. From teachers and counselors to my peers and older students. I began to help other with academics as early as the third grade, however I began to commit to tutoring in High School and continue it through-out college, in hopes to eventually becoming a teacher in the future.

Education and helping others get the most out of their scholastic experience has always been very important to me. My tutoring background began at Merced Community College, where I taught college students in English, Spanish, business law, mathematics, and chemistry. Reviewing essays and helping others improve their writing skills is a passion of mine.
