As "stay at home" mom of 6, I have used my two Bachelors' degrees for the education of my own children. I've taught them essential reading and writing skills, study habits, organization skills, science projects, practical application of principles, and a love of learning. I have also home schooled my children. I teach violin and piano out of the home and have spent many hours volunteering in the public schools with ESL and teaching early morning Spanish courses. My last class was a self-contained 6th grade, with a 34% ELL and 14% special education population. My class average reading level rose from 4.6 to 7.1. Of all the students in the school who surpassed the required State testing and higher District goals in both reading and math, 75% came from my class, as did the winners of the school's essay contest, spelling bee and geography competition. My first career was in medicine where I gave direct care, taught military/civilian classes and participated extensively in research, gaining a deep understanding of science biology and chemistry and human A&P.
