A Little Bit About Me...

I worked full-time for Okeechobee Eckerds Juvenile home for boys and the Polk County School District. In these positions, I was a reading teacher. I did work many years as a teacher, aide, and assistant that taught special needs learners to strengthen writing, math, and reading difficulties. Hence this gave me experience with many learning situations like one on one and whole group studious conditions. At all academic levels at Elmira College, I helped students to succeed at their scholarly endeavors. As a parent, I guided own daughters to be successful learners. This makes me an excellent candidate to help the next generation to be set on the pathway to thrive in their life vision.
My teaching is guided by the needs of my learners; hence, I create learning by setting my students on their needs and interests to life-long academic endeavors. On this journey, I help to develop stra ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching science is not about teaching facts. Science is based on theories, which evolve through the process of discovery. Thus, it is important to teach a student not what to think, but how to think. With little formal teaching experience, my philosophy draws on what I have liked in my teachers. First, and foremost, is enthusiasm. A professor who is clearly excited by the subject is more likely to spark excitement in the students. Second, it is important to relate to the students on a more personal level. This needs to occur in both directions. I believe the students need to see me as more than a teacher providing the information, but as a scientist and a person with my own views.

I have always been driven to succeed, especially in school. I graduated magna cum laude with my BA in Communication this past December. This degree increased my own ability to communicate effectively and I am now pursuing a BA in English this Fall so that I can teach high school English. I am fortunate in that I have done well in all of my general education classes, making me confident in my ability to tutor algebra I and II, geometry, chemistry, biology, earth science, and of course English, whether it be writing, reading, or grammar. This past year I have been tutoring Algebra, as well as basic math skills in order to catch my students up to their current grade level.
I have worked with children for what seems like my whole life, mostly through church. I know that every child can succeed with the right help. I myself am caring, compassionate, patient, and encouraging. I believe t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I discovered my love for teaching and working with children in the Dominican Republic while on an alternative spring break working with at-risk youth living on the streets of the city of Santiago. With this experience I learned that one of the most important thing in the world is education, and I began my life as an educator. With tutoring I try to implement a facilitated teaching method that involves students pushing themselves to learn. As far as my teaching style goes, I think it is the role of the student to want to learn, and if they are struggling with this concept I work to motivate them to understand the necessity and great opportunities that education provides.
I graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University with a degree in biology and chemistry minor. I finished with honors, while in the honors program and Phi Eta Sigma honor society and the Golden Key honor society. Thro ... read more

My teaching style is conversational and relaxed. I am an expert at overcoming school-related anxiety, especially related to math. I have excellent listening and communication skills and quickly pick up what my students needs are. I am quick on my feet and am able to flex with nearly any situation so that the student's needs are met. I very much enjoy connecting with my students, and relating their personal interests to the material being learned. I believe that modeling is one of the best ways to teach, and students learn quickly when I explain the concept and then we model together how to find a solution.
I began my education at Purdue University, where I completed three years of a Construction Engineering and Management program. I then changed to an education program at Trinity International University and graduated with a BS in Secondary Math Education. During college an ... read more

Throughout my studies I have learned that all students learn differently. When teaching in a classroom, I will have to discover the way each student learns individually. An important aspect of my teaching experience has been to get down on that students level, and look at the struggles each student has in the classroom. I modify lessons in order to have each student adapt them to his or her own learning style. I believe that each student is willing to learn, but needs to discover the best learning style suitable to their abilities.
As an English Education major, I have had numerous encounters in the classroom with each of my classroom practicums. During my years as an undergraduate student I took on extensive study habits that included working in study groups and tutoring other classmates who were struggling with material. In my undergraduate experience I have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to comprehend extensive material including math, physics, chemistry, and life sciences. As an honors student I was required to speak in front of large groups of people and explain complex subjects in areas that I had researched. I have also had 3 years of coaching experience with children from pre-kindergarten to 3rd grade.

A Little Bit About Me...

While I attended Auburn University and studied civil engineering I found myself enjoying group projects and helping other students get through the difficult curriculum. I needed some extra money my junior year of school and since I was enjoying working with other students I decided to try tutoring freshman and sophomore students in math and physics. I enjoyed it and it was rewarding when the students grasped the lesson at hand and did well on their upcoming tests.
I cannot say that I am set in any teaching style. I am green and haven’t exactly got a teaching style. I know through years of schooling and interacting with peers people learn differently and do better or worse depending on the teacher they have and that teachers style. I believe teaching methods in a tutorial environment need to be adaptive to the student. You’ll need to communicate with the student and feel him/her out ... read more
