Education is essential for the mind to grow.

On the whole, I look for a rather creative approach when it comes to learning and studying. I ask that students be skeptical in all they hear and read, so asking questions as a form of studying will be essential. Just reading a book or looking at flash cards for studying purposes can prove to be tedious and ineffective. And putting what's learned in context is always necessary if the subject calls for any everyday application.
I have helped people with their English-speaking skills off and on and am very skilled in spelling and grammar. I've been learning Japanese for going on three years, as well. I'm aware that it's not a particularly high in-demand language to learn, but I am more than willing to aid in learning it if it is desired. Also, having graduated high school, I have enough knowledge to teach kids about the basics of science, math, and English.

Let's get you an A!

I began tutoring math, composition, and biology in college for 3 years and loved it! I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology with and minor in math. After college I continued tutoring middle school and high school students in math and biology in both a one-on-one and small group setting. I have been tutoring now for over 4 years and genuinely enjoy helping students realize their potential and succeed!
I find it partucularly useful to take time to get to know the student's interests so that I can relate each subject to things that the student is familiar with. Making this connection between a difficult concept and the student's personal areas of interest helps the student feel comfortable with the subject and therefore more confident thinking through each question presented. Once confidence is established, it becomes easier for students to develop an understanding of the sub ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Teaching science is not about teaching facts. Science is based on theories, which evolve through the process of discovery. Thus, it is important to teach a student not what to think, but how to think. With little formal teaching experience, my philosophy draws on what I have liked in my teachers. First, and foremost, is enthusiasm. A professor who is clearly excited by the subject is more likely to spark excitement in the students. Second, it is important to relate to the students on a more personal level. This needs to occur in both directions. I believe the students need to see me as more than a teacher providing the information, but as a scientist and a person with my own views.
I have had a broad interdisplinary education and a variety of work experiences related to ecology and wildlife. I have worked directly with animals and conducted complex mathematical simulation m ... read more

I enjoy sharing what I know and have learned with others. I have a 7 year old son and believe patience is a valuable characteristic of mine. I'm also very easing going and get along well with most people. When tutoring, I first attempt to help someone understand a subject especially chemistry as structured in the text book but whenever possible, if the situation requires, I will try to simplify the subject in any way possible until the student makes it over the hump and then the text version usually becomes more clear.
I've worked as an environmental scientist for the past 15 years. I have a B.S. Biology/Limnology and completed General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Biochemistry. I have many years of experience related to preparing scientific reports. I enjoy tutoring.

I hold a B.S. in Wildlife Biology and an M.S. in Environmental Biology. I entered college later in life and worked and paid my own way through. I have excellent writing skills and am proficient in nearly all areas of biological sciences. Specifically, I am well versed in the areas of taxonomy, evolutionary biology, and anatomy of both plants and animals.
Though I am an easy going person, I am no nonsense when it comes to learning. I am non judgmental about a person's ability to learn, only their dedication and willingness. I believe anyone can excell in any subject, if they simply have the will to do so.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with children for what seems like my whole life, mostly through church. I know that every child can succeed with the right help. I myself am caring, compassionate, patient, and encouraging. I believe that my Communication degree has given me the unique ability to be able to explain problems in concepts in many different ways, which allows me to discover which works best for each student. I also try to relate problems and concepts, especially those that students are not fond of, to their personal lives, whether it be through what they'll need to do in college in order to pursue their dream, or how it applies to real life. I strive to help children embrace the learning of all subjects.
I have always been driven to succeed, especially in school. I graduated magna cum laude with my BA in Communication this past December. This degree increased my own ability to communicate ... read more

I chose the teaching profession because I wanted to be a positive adult male role model for students. I believe all kids can learn and can achieve academic success with a teacher who is patient and supportive to their needs. I have a systematic approach to teaching; I have found that when ideas and concepts are "broken down" and explained step by step, students have an easier time understanding and grasping those ideas. I also believe that the key to academic success lies in developing essential skills; such as, note taking skills, organization skills, and test preparation skills.
I am a 2010 graduate of the Teacher Immersion Program (TIP) from Florida Gulf Coast University. I have my Florida Teaching Certificate and am Florida certified in Math (Middle Grades 5-9) and Elementary Ed. K-6. I am a recent Business graduate with a 4.0 GPA, who volunteers my time everyday at James Stephens International Academy, as a teacher assistant. I don’t have a specific age group that I prefer; I love inspiring children to make the right choices, when it comes to education. I tell my daughter all the time how blessed she is to do any kind of school activity, because I didn’t make those wise decisions, I chose to drop out of school in the eight grade.
