My comments on tutoring Reading : I am currently helping several students prepare for the verbal section of the SAT and the Reading section of the ACT.

I graduated from Princeton University with a BA (cum laude) in History and will be starting a Ph.D. program in History in the fall. I served as a tutor at the middle school level during my college years and have worked with High School students on History, English and ACT/SAT prep for the past year.I have also served in various other academically-related positions, including as a research assistant and library assistant.
I like to nurture my students without enabling them. I tend to ask my students pointed questions about the subject at hand to inspire critical thinking and push them to arrive at their own interpretation of the correct answer. I feel that this best prepares them for college-level work.

Collaborative & Fun Teacher

I worked in the financial sector for 10 years and have a Master's Degree in Economics and Finance. My comments on tutoring Reading : I have always been an avid reader. My favorite genres include classic religious writings, Romantic Age poetry, current and ancient philosophy, and some quality fiction.

The most effective teaching takes place whent he teacher presents the information clearly and then gives the student ample opportunity to put it into practice, with the teacher watching and assisting.
I was homeschooled at a higher academic standard than public schools. As a current senior at Pensacola Christian College, I have recieved a steller education in English, as well as Bible and Biblical Greek. The usefullness of understanding Biblical Greek and being able to study the Bible in its original languages cannot be overemphasized. This is where I would like to spend my tutoring time, although I will be willing to help in basic English, Writing, or Reading.

I am more open to the one-on-one teaching because I believe that this allows that student and the teacher to build a better rapport with one another, therefore the teacher is better able to understand how the student learns and is able to help the student better succeed. This is better for the student as well because he/she now has that one-on-one interaction with the teacher that they are not able to have in a traditional classroom.
