Organic Chemistry is one of my top subjects!

I received my Bachelor of Science from Western Washington University and my Master of Science from the University of Oregon, both in chemistry. After graduation, I worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a synthetic chemist before starting a PhD program. While I ultimately decided not to complete my doctorate, I did discover I had quite a passion for teaching chemistry. I then started teaching test prep courses and tutoring students, and later I started teaching general and organic chemistry as an adjunct professor in the Seattle Colleges District which I have been doing for the past 3 years.
Tutoring especially appeals to me because breakthrough moments don’t always occur while class is in session. Every student has a slightly different way of wrapping his or her head around a given concept. By engaging students one-on-one, I can get a feel for their specific situation and how th ... read more

Organic Chemistry is one of my top subjects!

I have overall 10 years of teaching experience. I came to United States to do my Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. As a graduate student, I worked as a TA for the Department of Chemistry. I was trained on an intense 4 week program focused on undergraduate teaching methods offered by the Teaching College of U of Nebraska. I taught various undergraduate courses (both laboratory and recitation) at the Department of Chemistry, UNL. I have been living in Seattle for the past four years, and I have tutored students from high school, U Prep, and College in Science and Math. I teach all subdivisions of Chemistry (College and high-school) level, mathematics and physics (highschool). I also tutor for GRE Chemistry and Biochemistry subject exams.

I have been teaching Biology 1100 for undergraduate offered by Idaho State University for past 2.5 years. Being a biology major i enjoy teaching biology and help student understanding basic foundation of science. Understanding is a part of learning where most of the student struggle. Science would be so much fun if we stick with the basic. Beside biology i have helped students with maths, physics and chemistry which without any doubt is an integral part of science. Being a recent graduate student i have learned the way how to tackle with problems and have successfully employed those problem solving techniques in my teaching carrier.contact me 2085402785 or email: waglpraj@isu.edu

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience working with students of all ages. I've taught elementary classes, college level labs and adult specific classes. I have always been driven to do well in my studies and have found success helping others achieve their academic goals. Science is so fun and I love helping others understand the complexities of how it all works and fits together.
I love working with students to set and accomplish learning goals. I look for ways to make subject matter relevant to each individual by looking for ways it relates to their own life. I enjoy helping each student discover the overarching themes and conquer the details to create a cohesive understanding of subject matter. As an educator, I look to inspire the spirit of discovery and wonder in my students that I have found in studying sciences.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style involves being open and relatable while keeping he conversation related to learning and the subjects of importance. I feel like students respond best when they are in a positive work environment and are pushed to be their best. This involves teaching through the Socratic method, of forcing individuals to answer their own questions. I believe that tutors and teachers should be providing students with the tools and skills they need to be productive students instead of giving away answers.
I have been tutoring as a volunteer and as a job for a combined 7 years now. I have worked in both one on one tutoring with a dyslexic student, tutoring in specialized topics, and group peer tutoring. I taught introductory zoology lab to freshman at Mississippi State University. Then I served in the Peace Corps where I taught daily 13 3 year olds to 15 year olds English, mathematics, and arts and crafts. I also taught basic library skills to all the elementary school classes.
My teaching style is the shrapnel method. I like to use a large variety of techniques - visual, auditory, games, etc - to achieve the same goal. This keeps interest up and allows me to narrow in on the method that is most valuable to a specific student.

Welcome! I believe it important to make any material a student is learning ‘realistic’. I am a father and understand the need for patience, accepting individual needs and developing a child's sense of purpose. I strive to present real-life examples that apply to the material being studied, and then focus on practice. While repetition (using worksheets or going over the process from different directions) is important, my goal is to explore the concept so that the student is capable of addressing the problem AND understands the theory behind it. I am convinced that any student can learn any material, provided the tools to learn, study and find resources. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Bill Adams

I try to avoid giving students an answer immediately, but rather try to pry the answer out of them with questions so that they can figure out the answer themselves. I see teaching as helping/forcing the student to think things out and make discoveries for themselves, not just being spoon-fed information. Of course, sometimes it is necessary to tell students the answer if all else fails (after all, it is important that learning is not a frustrating activity for the student), and rote memorization can be a valuable tool every now and then. Enjoy working with people of all ages who want to learn. Tend to use the Socrates style of asking questions and building on the student's response. Try to use real world examples that the student can relate to. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. Try to use some humor to put or keep the student at ease. A relaxed student will probably learn more.

I enjoyed teaching during my tenure as a TA. In addition, through college I was able to participate in educational outreaches to elementary and junior high students showing them that chemistry does have a great significance in their lives. As a teacher, I really want to show the students through the basic concepts and really allow the student to help use those concepts to explore more difficult situations. I feel that showing I am invested in their education; my student can then truly learn and grow.
