A Little Bit About Me...

From my experience of working the Math Lab at ICC, I have noticed that for some students, math is a rather difficult subject to them. Therefore, I always try to make sure my students understand everything I'm explaining and I always ask them for feedbacks so I know that they clearly understand everything. I always go over and review the materials I have taught/explained to the students so if there are any shady areas, I make sure I go over and expalin it again. My goal in being a math tutor is to help other students understand as much as I do.

I taught one semester of College Algebra at Illinois State University. I was responsible for 2 sections of lab while I completed graduate credits for a Master's in Mathematics. My B.S. in actuarial science (math) was attained from Bradley University. Also, I've been a youth minister at the local church for a year and half now and have formed a large group consisting of junior high and high school students.
I love to put myself in the students' shoes. I have the ability to relate to the students on an individual level and they respect me. I always hope that no one is left behind just because they are afraid to ask questions. I believe in having fun while learning and in being honest with your students.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very similar to how I was taught, lots of examples with guidance. I was never given the answer, but given all the tools to necessary to complete the task. In most math courses, the problems themselves are not what you have to worry about, but the clock is the real problem. Therefore, lots of example and building confidence from those examples would be my ideal teaching style.
While earning my degrees, I was inducted into a honor society with emphasis on helping the engineering students in our department in several way. Our focus was working with companies for future jobs and offering free tutoring every week for all computer and electrical engineering courses that were junior level and below. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, with a concentration in Statistics. I'm currently working on a Master's degree in Biomathematics at Illinois State University so that I can teach either Biology or Math at the community college level. I have over 5 years of experience teaching Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and lower and upper division Statistics. I love teaching. I us a guiding method of teaching. Because I believe that students learn the most when they do the work themselves, but sometimes they need someone there to motivate them or to guide them in the right direction. I feel this works in group studies also, but, the difference being is that all the student will be involved in a group discussion.
