My comments on tutoring Elementary : I have taught K for 13 years and have an understanding of what is expected in the early grades.

I have taught K for 13 years. I understand the value of one on one time, and that students are all different. Recently I spent 10 months teaching missionary children in Uganda. There I taught 4th, 5th, and 7th graders. Students in my class have had vision issues, autism, aspergers, and ADD/ADHD. With each situation, I have evaluated where the student was and revamped how I was teaching to meet their needs.
I like to see where the student is and meet him there. Look at what needs to be taught and discover the best way to impart that learning to the individual child.

I have throughout my entire grade school career been both a tutor and a mentor. As young as in nine years old in fourth grade I was selected to tutor kindergarten children in mathematics. As I grew older, I continually tutored my peers in a multitude of subjects, math being the prominent and my best subject. Based on previous experience I have discovered that the same teaching style does not work for every child. I find that explaining each topic and asking the child question gives a clear indication of their understanding. Based on responses to the questions adjustments may be made to address each child's need.
