I have always been fascinated by numbers and how the analysis of numbers can be used in nearly everything we do. I have a MBA from a top 20 program that has helped me further develop my mathematical skills in statistics and calculus. I have helped tutor children in various after-school volunteer programs and was a paid tutor while in undergrad and grad school. While the tutoring ran the gamut, I tended to focus on math (algebra, stats), finance/accounting and writing (typically logical essays not creative writing).
I believe the first step is to always ascertain where a student is in their comprehension of the subject and what their propensity is to learn (i.e. quick learner, learns by examples etc.). That gives me an idea of how fast/slow to go and how best to get to cement actual learning. Generally, I like to get the student to arrive at answers by asking pointed ques ... read more

I have a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Political Science and feel qualified to tutor in spelling, writing, English, reading and related subjects. I would tutor a student in other subjects on a case by case basis. I have written a lot of papers and am very good at grammar. I have been an English tutor to foreign adults and my students always do well and enjoy learning.
I am a very patient person and my teaching style reflects that. I will always make sure your child understands the concepts that the teacher is trying to teach. Even when he or she shows that the material is understood I will always go over it a few more times to make sure it really sticks. Everyone has a learning style that works best for them and I will try to figure out the method that will allow your child to improve the most. I will al ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While living in Japan, I taught English to the Japanese nationals and was a teacher's aide in the Department of Defense Dependent's Schools in the special needs department. I worked directly with middle school children who had ADD, ADHD as well as other physical handicaps including Cerebral Palsy. I have 3 children that I have had to help with their homework and projects throughout the years. I enjoy working with children and believe education is the key to developing responsible adults.
I believe the best way to teach is to relate the subject to the children. A child may not understand fractions but if you ask them to divide up a candy bar, they know how many pieces they want to split it in to and how many they want. I believe that listening is the key to teaching. A good teacher and a good listener is the difference between a child attending school and a child excelling in ... read more

Communication of ideas is key to helping the student learn what is being taught to them. If your student understands and grasps ideas-concepts-formulas, reinforce them with exercises. But you must be keenly aware if they have difficulty, then you must help them to overcome problems by solving problems and awakening the power of thought.

I have been working in the banking field for over 15 years since I graduated with a degree in business. In Jan. 2009 I was laid off from a banking job for the second time. I am doing a career change to teaching. I have been hired as football coach at Estero High School, I will be working as a teacher this fall 2009. I have been fingerprinted by Lee County School and I am cleared to be employed. I have a son that is 8 years old I help with his home work every night. My teaching style is very similar regardless of audience: get them involved. I use creative exercises, current events, and varied instruction styles to keep the learning environment dynamic. My experience has taught me that learning is more about facilitating and fostering a positive environment than it is about memorizing facts.
I began my teaching career while obtaining my Master's degree at the U of Iowa. I taught the entry Business Administration course as part of my graduate program. This included grading, testing, actvities, and coaching students. Once employed in the corporate world, I continued teaching within my corporate position, as well as in adult education settings with Indiana Wesleyan, Univesity of Indianapolis, and Indiana Tech. I expanded my role from adjunct faculty to part-time consultant by helping them development their Information Technology program. A ... read more

When I came to this country, one of my goals was to succeed and the first thing that I needed to do was to learn the English language the correct way. I enrolled in ESOL classes and was determined to master the language. I obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, and then a Masters degree from Phoenix University. Although my degrees are in Business Administration; I have a strong background in essays and composition skills. While in school, I wrote many research papers, analysis, and essays in various subjects of study.
I enjoy teaching subjects in which I feel comfortable with. I am self confident and positive in the things that I do, and when I tutor I make sure this confidence is transferred to the other person. I am patient and place a lot of emphasis in motivating. I feel that all kids have great potential in different subject areas; unfortunately, many t ... read more

My teaching technique the students differ greatly in their ability to acquire knowledge depending on their previous backgrounds and learning styles. Therefore, it is a very challenging task as a tutor to create a fertile learning environment for students with dissimilar needs, and to be able to achieve not only the targeted course objectives, but also inspire students into becoming independent problem-solvers and good thinkers. So, one practice that has been very useful to me as a tutor is to be able to identify student’s skills and their conceptual understanding levels early on in a particular course.
The breadth of my experience has enriched my teaching life, but left me without a luxury some of my colleagues enjoy-the sense, as embarked upon a new challenge, tutoring students, that I know what students will need, and how best to share it with them. This is not to say that I've bee ... read more
