My teaching style would be more of a demonstrator or personal model. I am more interested in encouraging student participation and adapting their presentation to include various learning styles. Students are expected to take some responsibility for learning what they need to know and for asking for help when they don't understand something.

I believe in personal interaction with students – making them write, making them read – going over every detail, looking at the issues (grammar, punctuation, syntax, coherent structure (logic, unity, transitions, parallelism,)) and then re-writing and re-reading. The key to doing well in English is understanding basic structure and making it become second nature when writing. Through personal interaction, the process can be simplified by working hands on with each sentence and paragraph. A student learns best when he/she actually reads and writes and has someone to work with on the structure – through a workshop type approach – writing and re-writing. While working to obtain a degree in Elementary Education at the University of Mississippi, I was able to experience a variety of tutoring and instructional techniques in the K-6 grades.
