Have taken and passed in high percentile: SAT, GRE, GMAT, SERIES 6 and 63, Insurance Licensing for Life, Health and Disability and Real Estate Licensing, Propane I and II safety certifications, National Oil Heat Association safety inspection certification.....In other words I have figured out how to study and take tests and pass them.
Interactive. I listen to the client's concerns and develop a plan. Then I can present a lesson we can accomplish together and homework that will give confidence. My philosophy is that education is power. Knowledge is our greatest defense and our greatest weapon. Through knowledge we gain experience, which enriches our competence, which protests the ills of society, which leads to a social justice, and most important, liberty. Learning is an activity that we should never stop, and if we do, we begin to die. I believe all children can learn given the appropriate avenues to success. Part of our job is to find those avenues and encourage our students to use them.
I have been substitute teaching for 5 years. Within that time I decided that teaching was for me and went on to get my degree and certificate to teach. I have completed several long-term substitute teaching positions, picking up where a teacher left off, often times unexpectedly. I have taught classes in the elementary, middle and high school.

One of the strongest abilities I have is maintaining a high level of patience with others. I exercise patience with others on a daily basis whether interacting with my family, shopping at the grocery store, or driving on the highway. One of my most vivid memories of exercising patience with another person is when my neighbor, Kaitlyn, was learning to read. I practiced reading with Kaitlyn three afternoons a week during the summer. I worked patiently with her as she struggled to make out sounds and work her way through beginner books. Slowly, Kaitlyn began to master the sounds of each written word. Soon enough, she began reading with confidence and purpose. A Little Bit About Me...

I was recognized for my teaching abilities during my undergraduate years, having been selected as a teaching assistant as a freshman for sociology courses. As a graduate student, I spent much of my time as a teaching assistant and later as an instructor at the college level. I spent several years reading and evaluating statewide public school exams in science, math and writing, while helping shape the questions asked by state exam boards for primary and secondary school students. I became fluent in Spanish living and working in Central America and Mexico, as well as through immersion in Spanish speaking communities in the USA. I am very much invested in both structured and intuitive teaching. I consistently try to instill in my students a sense of the dynamic interplay between these two facets of the production and maintenance of knowledge. I encourage them to know the inside of "the box", but to be ready and willing to think outside of it when the situation demands it (as it very often does).
